A meeting of the British-Irish Intergovernmental Conference will take place in Iveagh House today.
The Irish Government will be represented by Simon Coveney TD, Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and by Charles Flanagan TD, Minister for Justice and Equality.
The UK Government will be represented by the Rt Hon David Lidington MP, Minister for the Cabinet Office and by the Rt Hon Karen Bradley MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
The meeting of the Conference will discuss the effective operation of the institutions of the Good Friday/Belfast Agreement; North/South Security Co-operation; and bilateral cooperation between the British and Irish Governments.
Simon Coveney TD, Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, said: “I look forward to a constructive meeting of the BIIGC on November 2 in Dublin. Following the last meeting of the Conference in July, it shows the shared determination of both governments to get all of the institutions of the Good Friday Agreement operating effectively again as soon as possible.
“It also demonstrates that, despite the current challenges, both the Irish and UK governments are committed to developing the relationship between our countries and looking at ways to maintain and deepen our engagement.”
Charles Flanagan TD, Minister for Justice and Equality, said: “The next meeting of the BIIGC in Dublin will be an important opportunity for the two governments to discuss our shared security concerns. We have common cause in combating the threat from paramilitaries, who continue to reject the Good Friday Agreement. While considerable progress has been made on the security front, the need for continued action against paramilitaries and ongoing vigilance remains.”
